Meet the Sunnyvale Team Behind Walt’s Insulation
Most insulation companies send whoever’s available. We send people we know by name, because they work here every day. The Sunnyvale crew at Walt’s Insulation is a small, tight group of installers and coordinators who’ve spent years crawling through Bay Area attics and crawl spaces, from Cupertino bungalows to Eichlers in Sunnyvale’s Birdland neighborhood. They know which houses on Mary Avenue fight afternoon heat, which 1950s ranch styles hide knob-and-tube wiring under old batts, and which Santa Clara County permiting quirks matter on a retrofit. They’re background-checked, uniformed, and they show up on time because their names are on the work.
Our People
Miguel R., Lead Technician
Miguel has been installing insulation in Santa Clara County for 16 years, the last 9 of them with Walt’s. He holds BPI Building Analyst certification and handles the trickiest attic air sealing work we do, the kind where finding the actual leak matters more than adding another layer. Spray foam in open-cell applications, Crawl space encapsulation with vapor barrier in older Sunnyvale homes with damp clay soil, blown-in Owens Corning fiberglass in vaulted ceilings: he’s done all of it more times than he can count. Miguel lives in San Jose and restores old motorcycles when he’s not under someone’s roofline. Ask him about the 1972 Honda he’s rebuilding and you’ll get a tour of photos on his phone.
Devon P., Senior Installer
Devon joined Walt’s crew shortly after we opened, and he’s spent two decades learning to install just about every brand of insulation on the market: Rockwool, CertainTeed, Knauf, GreenFiber, Johns Manville. He’s our go-to person for radiant barrier installation, especially the staple-up method that works well in Sunnyvale attics where roof deck access stays tight. Devon also leads most of our insulation removal and replacement jobs, handling old fiberglass and rodent-damaged material carefully and legally. He’s a father of three, coaches youth soccer in Milpitas, and is the first one to arrive on job sites, usually before the coffee’s done brewing in the truck.
Sarah K., Service Coordinator
Sarah is the voice on the phone when you call (669) 215-4805 at 2 p.m. or 2 a.m., because Walt’s answers with a live person around the clock, no voicemail and no answering service. She’s been with us for seven years and knows the Sunnyvale service area block by block: what time of day traffic chokes Wolfe Road, which neighborhoods prefer morning appointments, which homes have HOA requirements about exterior work. Sarah schedules every estimate, tracks every permit when one’s needed, and makes sure the no-trip-charge promise inside the county actually happens. She grew up in Cupertino and keeps a running list of the best taco trucks near every jobsite. If Miguel asks nicely, she shares it.
Tony W., Apprentice
Tony is two years into his insulation career and learning from Miguel and Devon the way apprentices used to: by doing the work, watching closely, and asking questions at the end of the day. He’s already earned his OSHA 10 certification and handles a lot of the attic prep and cleanup that makes a Walt’s job look clean when we leave. Tony grew up in Sunnyvale’s Lakewood neighborhood and went to Fremont High School, so he knows the houses and the people. He’s also our best crawler, the one who fits into the tightest crawl spaces under older Sunnyvale bungalows where foundation access is barely 18 inches.
One Standard, Every Job
Every person on this page works under the same rule Walt Brenner set when he started this company in 2000: the Done Right Promise. If the insulation isn’t done right, we make it right. No runaround, no arguing about who’s at fault, no waiting for a regional manager to call back. That promise works because the people doing the work are the same people whose names and reputations sit right next to it. Miguel won’t sign off on a spray foam job with gaps. Devon won’t leave a radiant barrier half-stapled. Sarah won’t schedule a visit without confirming the address and the access point. Tony knows that a clean worksite at 4 p.m. matters as much as the R-value. Locally owned and owner-operated since 2000 means a real name, a real address, a real license number. When you’re in Sunnyvale, we’re just the one down the road.
